Quardruplets

Come July and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was in the limelight. Pondicherry was abuzz with the news that a set of quadruplets was delivered in PIMS.

A casual labourer with multiple pregnancies in her eighth month was admitted a week prior to that in the Obstetrics ward with breathlessness. She was being followed up as an out patient for her on going pregnancy. She was soon transferred to the emergency ward as it got worse and became life threatening. Her condition was stabilized by the emergency unit doctors and transferred to the ward for further management.

Little did it dawn on her or her family that she was going to the talk of the town in the ensuing days. She went into labour and literally had the OBG department running and delivered four babies.

More than a month later (and the efforts of a dedicated pediatric department) she was discharged with her healthy foursome.

What makes the event even more noteworthy are the facts that she had three boys and one girl and that all of them were delivered vaginally and in good condition also. Further more Tamilarasi had been married of only one year and did not take any medication to conceive.
